When we think about giving to charity, often times the first thought that comes to mind is how much money we’re able to donate. While monetary donations are all well and good, that’s not the only way you can be charitable. On the contrary, there are many ways you can donate to or help a charity without spending a cent. Here are just a few to consider.

Donate Time

Many organizations would be lost without their volunteers. The efforts of those who volunteer their time keep them afloat and fills the organizations with kind souls who want to help others. This is a two-way street: while your efforts would help the organization you work with survive, you’ll feel good about helping animals or your fellow humans. Some places you can volunteer your time are homeless shelters, soup kitchens, senior centers, hospice facilities, and more.

Donate Skills

If you’re particularly talented in a certain skill, such as writing, cooking, or photography, you could offer your services to charity organizations pro bono. This is incredibly useful for charities, nonprofit organizations, and advocacy groups because while they have a need for such skills, they don’t have the means to afford dedicated staff to do so.

Donate Blood

This is free, quick, and can end in you chowing down on sugary snacks or drinking sodas, so why not donate blood? Blood is crucial in the medical field, and there’s the chance that your donation could save someone’s life—about 10,000 units of plasma are needed on a daily basis in the United States.

Organize a Drive or Fundraiser

Charities and nonprofits are always in need of help, and even if you can’t afford to donate personally, you can still start a drive or fundraiser to get help from others. You could organize a food drive at work, for example, or something akin to Toys for Tots to get food for the hungry and toys to love on for the children in need.

Similarly, starting a fundraiser by organizing a local collection or taking to social media can help raise monetary funds that can go to an organization as well. If you have a good network and hustle, you may be able to make even get a heft donation.
